About Our Family Business

    We are a family business that has been in the San Luis Valley since 1983. We own approximately 14,000 acres in the valley free and clear including our year round and active family ranch of 1435 acres. We carry a variety of different properties, the most popular land tracts being; Colorado 5 acre ,10 acre or 35 acre tracts w/ mountain views that are owner financed. They are within an hour to several ski resorts such as Wolf Creek, Red River, Taos, and Angel Fire, New Mexico  and offer up lakes and streams filled with large Rocky Mountain Trout.

    Many customers prefer to meet us at the ranch when they come to visit their property, as our ranch is just a couple of minutes from our largest 35 acre subdivision, and the 5 acre subdivisions. We sell some of our property via online auctions on Ebay,and Overstock.com. A large portion of our business comes from current customer referrals. Reichwein Ranches is the only approved developer approved by eBay in Costilla County. Our standings are excellent.     The Carson National Forest is very popular for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. We're also very fortunate to have the Rio Grand River running through our area and into New Mexico; it's perfect for fishing and whitewater rafting.  During the winter, activities like cross country skiing and snowmobiling are popular in the Carson National Forest, the Southern Colorado area, and the town of Taos.

    "Our family-run business was built throughout the years by my parents, Frank  and Jean Reichwein. Our Family is from St. Louis,Missouri,but my parents both went to college at Regis College in Denver,Colorado for a semester in 1959. They married in 1960. My Dad met one of his good friends there that was from the San Luis Valley and this was his connection and introduction to this area years later for buying Real Estate.

Anyways My Parents were busy having 3 children (Julie, Mary Ann and Tricia) during the next 4 years,  While my Dad was busy continuing his education at Washingto University Business School at night and working during the day. My father worked hard to support his new family, and my mother worked hard at raising us. Together, they saved and put everything they could into buying real estate in the St. Louis area,where we lived at that time.

I asked my Dad how he got started w/buying Real Estate,because our Grandparents did not own any. He told me that is why he got into buying Real Estate,because he watched both his father and my Mom's Father work for the same Company their entire life,just to be forced into Retirement in their 60's w/nothing more than a Gold Watch. My Dad's Dad had absolutely nothing to his name and lived in a 2 bdrm apt until he died and was supported by my father. My Mother's Father, had to take a minimum wage security job and died early a broken sad man.

So My Dad decided at a young age that this was not going to be his destiny and he began to buy Real Estate w/every spare $ he could. He lived very frugal and put everything he could in to Real Estate. He raised his children to do the same.

We did take a few vacations in Colorado and so I fell in Love w/Colorado and so I chose Colorado,as the place I wanted to go to College and call my permanent home. This is How we ended up in the San Luis Valley of Colorado because I,Julie Reichwein,went to College in 1980 in Gunnison,Colorado. My Dad visited me on several occasions & One of the times he decided to go and visit his friend Ernie Salaz in San Luis. That was the beginning of our purchasing land in this area,and our making it a new home. I live here year round and have lived in Colorado now for close to 30 years.

     As a result, my father, Frank Reichwein built Reichwein Ranches and accumulated thousands of acres in the San Luis Valley.
